Fonts and Typeface
Fonts come in families e.g. Arial, Arial condensed, Arial bold and Arial rounded MT bold.
- Different fonts have different connotations (associated meanings) that relate to the genre and target audience. (3-5 different fonts usually)
- Appropriate fonts should be chosen for different themes or genres, for example a children magazine or book you would use comic sans font or for a newspaper you would use the accord heavy font.
- On the front cover of The Times newspaper, they have a simple but formal font (Times New Roman). The font suggest formality, professionalism, importance, serious, truthfully, reliable, believable, informative, related to academia, gravitas, this information has weight and reputation, nobility, knowledgable and intelligent target audience, middle/upper class, feeling of historical/traditional document.
- On the front cover of The Sun newspaper, (Arial/Calibri). The font is simple to read, easy to process the information therefore the content is accessible, informality, wants you to take notice because it is modern, contemporary, 'now', new active
